Why I Am a Conservative

Conservativism goes deeper in me than rebellion against the new, but that rebellion is a part of it. I am conservative because what is good should be conserved and what is bad should not. How does one determine what is good from what is bad?

Contemplation, a time-consuming practice, is the foundation of philosophy and of wisdom. Progressivism requires the avoidance of contemplation. It sees contemplation as a timewaster and, therefore something to be avoided at all costs.

For if we contemplate the policies of progressivism, it will very quickly dawn on us that its tenants will result in the dissipation of what is trustworthy, what is worth conserving. That is why, beginning with Stalin, communists hid the truth of the devastation that was occurring under communist rule and that has occurred under communism wherever it has been adopted, the same devastation America is experiencing now under its new appellation, progressivism.

The changes that have been made to public education are essentially an erasure of our history; the eradication of what was best in our foundations. In place of freedom, of liberty, of all that was good in America with the false and the worst that communism actually delivered. In order to make us all equal in outcome requires that wealth be destroyed. The lie of communism is that it represents progress.

Do I not believe in progress? Of course, I do. But change is not always progress. Change must be carefully contemplated in order to determine whether it is worth repeating or should be discarded. Only the valuable should be conserved.
